Freezing mist and rain are making roads slippery Friday morning, with a rash of spinouts in the Twin Cities metro.

Snow emergencies remain in effect for some cities in the metro area as crews work to clear streets after the recent winter storm. FOX 9’s Se Kwon reports from St. Paul, where portions of the city have a new pilot parking program for clearing the roads.

There's a multi-vehicle pileup on Highway 52 near Inver Grove Heights, which is causing backups in both directions. This is among several incidents on area roadways Wednesday morning as motorists navigate a slippery, messy commute.

The morning commute is slow-going on area roadways due to a jackknifed semi-truck on I-494 in Plymouth, as well as other spinouts and crashes on Twin Cities roadways. Meanwhile, there's a multi-vehicle pileup on Highway 55 near Inver Grove Heights.

As plows work to clear main roads of snow and ice for the morning commute, many side roads in the Twin Cities haven't yet been plowed. This could make it difficult to leave your neighborhood, especially if you don't have four-wheel drive.

A jackknifed semi-truck on I-494 near Rockford Road in the Plymouth area is blocking traffic, which could lead to a backup during the morning commute.

This storm came in two rounds, but the lull Tuesday night gave MnDOT plows some time to clear main roads before the second round of snow came through early Wednesday morning, Anne Meyer, a MnDOT spokesperson, told FOX 9. Road conditions are improving on the main roadways in the Twin Cities, but areas that saw a mixture of precipitation are seeing slick spots on roadways.

Many roads in the Twin Cities are partially or completely covered in snow and/or ice. That being said, road conditions are gradually improving as crews work to clear and treat roadways.
