It’s been an odd winter in Minnesota and January is no different with little snow, but a whole lot of ice. With that, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is asking residents to go easy with the salt.

A wind-whipped blast of arctic air will be sweeping across Minnesota Thursday evening, bringing a bitter wind chill of a -20 overnight that will last into Friday morning.

The Scott County Sheriff’s Office says it has pulled out two snowmobiles from Prior Lake after they went through the ice in the past week.

We are now nearly three quarters of the way through what is typically the coldest month of the year on average, and we have yet to get below zero in the Twin Cities.  

The latest snow totals following Thursday's storm show southern Minnesota saw some of the heaviest snowfall.

If you were out and about on Saturday, you probably ran into some icy conditions.

The snow will gradually wind down through the day Friday, with the bulk of the accumulation from this winter storm done.

There will brief period of freezing drizzle Thursday morning, then it’s drizzle and light rain before gradually changing over to some scattered snowflakes through Thursday afternoon.

A winter storm is on its way to Minnesota, which will make for a busy end to the work week weather-wise. 

Tuesday was the sixth day of the month where the high temperature in the Twin Cities metro was warmer than the freezing level and we are heading for more warm days, leading experts to urge caution as Minnesotans head out onto the ice.
