Embattled former Hennepin County Sheriff Dave Hutchinson has been fired by Metro Transit after an internal investigation, just two months after he was reinstated under a state law.

Two people were hurt when the car they were in was struck by a light rail train in Minneapolis. Five people on the train were also injured.

The Met Council overseeing the Southwest light rail project hasn't held contractors responsible for both cost overages and schedule delays, or been fully transparent with the public, a new report says. "We don’t have the money to stop, and we don’t have the money to go forward," audit project manager David Kirchner said Wednesday.

A busy transit center along Hennepin Avenue in the heart of Uptown Minneapolis will close its indoor waiting area temporarily due to challenges involved with “property damage, litter, and other unwanted behaviors."

Under state law, Hutchinson had the opportunity to get his old job back with Metro Transit. Sources within Metro Transit Police tell FOX 9's Tom Lyden they "are furious we had to hire him."

Jarelle Vaughn, 41, was charged with two counts of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon after two people were injured in a knife attack, one of which required surgery, according to the criminal complaint.
