With unanimous vote, Richfield raises tobacco sale age to 21

The Richfield City Council voted unanimously tonight to raise the minimum tobacco purchase age to 21, making it the 10th city in the state and eighth in the metro to enact a similar measure.

According to a 2015 report from the Institute of Medicine, raising the tobacco sale age to 21 would "reduce smoking initiation in 15-17 year olds by as much as 25 percent" and result in 30,000 fewer young adult smokers.
