Thunder, a rare sound in November, especially in Minnesota

You're not imagining, that was thunder you heard this Veterans Day 2015. A vigorous storm system that moved across the central portion of the country was the culprit. Here in the Upper Midwest, we were on the warm side of things; therefore he had ample energy to fire off a few thunderstorms. This is the time of year that we should be getting snow, not rain. So, how rare is thunder in November?

This nerdy meteorologist took the time to do the math. Now, to save myself too much investigating, I’m only counting November thunder since the year 2000. Assuming we get no more thunder this November, we have had thunder a total of 8 times, including twice for this month, November 2015.

That is a total of 8 out of 480 days which translates to 1.5%. This means that 98.5% of the days in November, you will not hear thunder. Now go talk about this around the water cooler!
