Sheila E. to perform at Orchestra Hall for ‘Purple Philanthropy Day' Oct. 23
MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) - Though the famed singer and drummer Sheila E. can’t make it to the official Prince Tribute Concert on Oct. 13, she won’t be missing out on the celebration.
After Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges declared Oct. 23, 2016, Purple Philanthropy Day, a benefit was planned at Orchestra Hall to commemorate the day.
Sheila E. and friends, including her legendary percussionist father, Pete Escovedo, will perform at 7:30 p.m. after a full day of festivities. Sheila E. also invited musicians, artists, designers and innovators to submit their work to win a display space at the free pre-concert, music and art fair.
The Music and Art Fair is free and open to the public from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
According to a press release, the Purple Philanthropy Benefit gets started at 11 a.m. with the fair, which “features a colorful drum-line produced by Grammy-award winning music producer and drummer, Andre Fischer, and a special proclamation from the Mayor of Minneapolis, Betsy Hodges.”
There will also be 25 exhibit spaces reserved to showcase designs that “reflect love and humanity.” The event also features a silent auction of donated art and three refurbished pianos donated by Wells Piano of St. Paul, Minnesota.
