Boy hit by snowmobile on Chisago Lake passes away

An eight-year-old boy has passed away just days after being struck by a snowmobile on Chisago Lake, according to Chisago County Sheriff's Office.

Friday night, Alan Geisenkoetter Jr. was severely injured in the crash, receiving severe head trauma and multiple leg fractures. His father, who was also hit, had non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the snowmobile, Eric Joseph Coleman, was charged with criminal vehicular operation while under the influence. Coleman has three previous DWI charges, including one back in November in which he blew .30 on the breathalyzer.

On Alan's CaringBridge page, his family posted the following message Wednesday evening:

"Alan's brain damage was way worse then any of us thought. Most of his brain was damaged. There was never a day we thought we would have to make a decision like this, the hardest decision we've ever made. Little Alan got his angel wings today."
