3 assaults near 17th and University Ave near U of M campus

Minneapolis police responded to three separate reports of assault early Sunday morning near the University of Minnesota campus.

The first incident took place at approximately 2 a.m. According to an email sent to U of M students, the victim in the first incident was assaulted near the intersection of 17th Avenue and University Avenue when he told a group of approximately 20 men to leave his front yard.

After the assault, the same group of suspects continued to walk down University Avenue and assaulted a second victim. Neither victim required medical attention.

Five minutes after the second assault, a smaller group of approximately five men assaulted three people in the same vicinity as the first two assaults.

Police have not yet released detailed suspect descriptions, but said the suspects in the third incident drove off in a black Subaru.
