RECIPE: Nutella bacon

For this recipe I prefer to use the extra-thick cut bacon by Farmland because it has a tendency to be more salty than usual – it's the brand I prefer when adding bacon to any recipe due to that fact. The saltiness of the bacon is a nice balance to the sweet of the Nutella.

1 package, thick-cut bacon

1/3 c. Nutella

2 tbsp. coconut oil

Flake sea salt for sprinkling (if desired)

Place bacon on a cooling rack, set inside a half-sheet pan so it can catch the drippings and roast in an oven that has been preheated to 400 degrees for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and allow to cool.

When bacon is cool, put Nutella and coconut oil into the microwave to heat up, roughly 30 seconds on high – stirring to make sure the coconut oil has fully melted – stir to combine. The coconut oil will help set the Nutella so it is more solid at room temperature – it will not add any coconut flavor. Using a pastry or basting brush, brush the Nutella mixture on one side of the cooled bacon – finish with sea salt if desired. Place into refrigerator to set for at least 30 minutes. When ready to serve, remove from refrigerator and enjoy!
