An active evening of storms throughout the Twin Cities and southern Minnesota are finally coming to an end. FOX 9 meteorologist Mace Michaels has a round up of what to expect next, and some of the damage reported.

Xcel Energy power outages reported due to storms on Monday

Due to storms passing through Minnesota on Monday evening – including some in the southern portions of the state that could potentially be tornadic – thousands are without power in the Twin Cities, according to Xcel Energy.

Southern MN tornado watch, warnings active Monday evening

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued tornado watches and warnings for several southern Minnesota counties on Monday evening.

Video from the National Weather Service Buffalo office shows the vortex spinning in Lake Erie and then coming onshore in LaSalle Park. According to Erie County, the waterspout continued onto Niagara Street where it ripped off the roof of a building.

Hurricane Debby made landfall in Florida Monday morning, bringing a life-threatening storm surge to portions of the state. It may also cause major flooding in the southeastern United States. It had maximum sustained winds of 80 miles an hour when it made landfall near Steinhatchee, Florida.

Storms in and around Stearns County and Todd County damaged property and dropped huge chunks of hail, while the Twin Cities saw intense lightning throughout Saturday night.
