Vikings coach hands out backpacks to kids, even to Packer fans

The Vikings had Tuesday off from Winter Park, but Mike Zimmer didn't sleep in.

Instead, the coach was up early making a difference handing out backpacks - even to kids wearing Aaron Rodgers jerseys.

"It's really great to be able to get these kids started out with the school year with all the things they need," Zimmer said. "We always think sports is important, but education is more important."

Through his foundation, Zimmer handed out 80 backpacks full of school supplies to children at the Salvation Army in St. Paul. The coach said his daughter came up with the idea and contacted Salvation Army.

Zimmer said it's always been a goal of his and his family’s to give back as much as they can.

"We've been very blessed to be able to give back to the community," Zimmer said.
