Kindergarten students from Orono, Minn. delivered handwritten letters and thank you bags to members of the Orono Police Department Thursday to show how much they appreciate the officers for keeping them safe.

The kindergartners at Schumann Elementary School were learning how to write about feelings and opinions by writing letters to people. Jennifer Drake’s kindergarten class decided to practice by writing letters to Orono police officers.

The students also made thank you bag to go with the letters. Each bag contained a kit with items the police officers might need.

Lifesavers for “every time you’ve been one”
Starbursts because “you are the real superstar”
Gum to “help your unit stick together”
Mint for “your community involve’mint’ and commit’mint’”

The students delivered the letters and thank you bags to the officers in person at the police station across the street from the school. The students also received a tour of the police station and got to sit in a squad car and holding cell.
