Thousands of National Guardsmen have been present in DC since the insurrection. They are expected to leave by mid-March, but now – a source is revealing to FOX 5 that troops could stay even longer.
WASHINGTON (FOX 5 DC) - The Pentagon approved an extension of the National Guard deployment at the U.S. Capitol for about two more months, defense officials announced Tuesday.
Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III gave final approval of the U.S. Capitol Police Department's request for continued National Guard support in the nation's capital amid worries about continued threats.

The Department of Defense says nearly 2,300 National Guard personnel will continue the support mission through May 23, 2021.
"During this extended period, DOD officials will work with the U.S. Capitol Police to incrementally reduce the National Guard footprint as conditions allow. We thank the National Guard for its support throughout this mission, as well as for its significant efforts across the nation in combatt
