Minneapolis police present awards for heroism during Minnehaha blast

Minneapolis police officers told stories of courage and selflessness as the department honored officers and citizens for dedication, compassion and heroism.

They recognized civic leaders, including those responding to the explosion at Minnehaha Academy in August, along with citizens awarded for their heroic acts.

"Sometimes our residents and visitors to our cities step in to help police and help people in distress, while also putting themselves in harm's way," one participant said.

Dozens of officers and investigators were also honored for saving lives and sacrificing their personal safety. Overall, the department presented 46 officers and 21 citizens with awards.
