Menomonie police car hit person lying on a road

A man suffered unknown injuries after he was hit by a Menomonie squad car early Sunday morning.

According to a release, the Dunn County sheriff's office was requested to investigate a crash in Menomonie, Wisconsin, around 1 a.m. on Wilson Avenue west of 2nd Street West.

The officer said the pedestrian, a 20-year-old man, had been lying in the street and he tried to swerve to avoid him. The pedestrian has been identified as Brett Schulte of Ellsworth.

During the investigation, officers discovered the pedestrian had been drinking prior to the incident. Blood tests then confirmed that he had alcohol in his system.

Squad video and documentation also verified the officer's description of the event.
