Man refurbishes Civil War era graveyard

A Hollywood location scout is on a mission: help bring life back to a forgotten piece of history.

While location scouting for a movie in New Mexico, Peter Stone stumbled upon a worn-down cemetery. Upon closer inspection, Stone discovered grave stones from the Civil War and the Mexican-American War.

From there, Stone decided the site needed to be refurbished.

Progress was slow at first, but a team of volunteers from local TV stations wanted to help.

“People do care. We reached out, and they responded,” said Stone. “We’re not done yet but some honor and respect’s been paid to our heroes from yesteryear.”

Each veteran’s grave was given a flag and a spotlight. Volunteers hope to get a statue and a flagpole for the site, and a fence around the perimeter.
