Minneapolis Fire Department crews responded to an explosion at Northern Metal Recycling on N. Pacific Street Friday afternoon.

Workers told firefighters there was an explosion in a processing hopper on the mezzanine area of the main facility. That explosion caused a flash fire to move into the roof stack, spreading fire to the roof area around the stack. Material still inside the hopper to smolder.

Firefighters evacuated the building and quickly put out the fire.

No one was injured.

The building closed operations for the day.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
