51-year-old man drowns at Big Kandiyohi Lake

A 51-year-old man drowned in Big Kandiyohi Lake Friday night, according to the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office.

Just before 7 p.m., Kandiyohi County Sheriff's officials responded to a possible drowning in Fahlun Township at Big Kandiyohi Lake.

When crews arrived, the man had already been brought to shore and family members were attempting CPR. The emergency responders took over, but could not revive him.

Authorities identified the man as Ricardo Torres of Olivia, MN.

Torres was attempting to swim across the channel on the southwest side of the lake. The drowning happened about 175 yards from the southern point of the park, where the water was about six to ten feet deep.
