X-ray device screening trucks headed to U.S. Bank Stadium
FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. (KMSP) - Nothing is getting into U.S. Bank Stadium this week without first getting screened.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection have set up a command in a large tent at the State Fairgrounds where they will inspect every vehicle with a large x-ray device. It's called VACIS, which stands for Vehicle and Cargo Inspection System.
"We're looking for anything dangerous, we're looking for weapons or explosives, or anything unusual or suspicious,” said U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officer Lee Takaki. "It's pretty much like an X-Ray machine. We scan the vehicle and look for anything suspicious or unusual. Inconsistencies mostly."
Officials expect they will inspect an average of 200 vehicles a day. Each VACIS device costs about $2 million. There is another VACIS inspection site near the Walker Art Center for smaller vehicles.
