St. Paul police officers no longer headed to Puerto Rico
ST PAUL, Minn. (KMSP) - Officers from the St. Paul Police Department are no longer headed to provide aid on the hurricane-battered island of Puerto Rico, according to a release Sunday.
The department announced over the weekend that 10 Spanish-speaking officers were headed to the U.S. commonwealth as a part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency's response team, after volunteering their services Thursday.
On Sunday, however, the Puerto Rican government told FEMA it only wanted 150 officers with vehicles, leading the St. Paul officers to reverse their plans.
Members of the Minnesota National Guard and Air National Guard are already in Puerto Rico assisting with relief efforts.
