Security video shows monkey-masked burglars at Dar Al Farooq Islamic Center

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (KMSP) - The Bloomington Police Department has released the security video from last Friday’s burglary at the Dar Al Farooq Islamic Center in hopes someone will be able to identify the vandals.

Two suspects entered the building around 2 or 3 a.m. Friday morning, breaking multiple windows and damaging many other items in the building. The security video shows the suspects wearing similar ape or monkey masks and heavy clothing. One is carrying a duffel bag, and the other is carrying a shoulder bag. The larger suspect had a distinctive walk.

The suspects are seen loading electronic items onto a chair and wheeling it through the building. Police have not said what items were stolen.

The burglary took place just months after an explosion disrupted morning prayers at the mosque. In early August, police responded to a 5 a.m. blast caused by a man-made, improvised explosion device led in the Iman’s office. Police do not believe these incidents are related.

No one was hurt, but the office and surrounding rooms suffered burn damage from the blast.
Bloomington Police say there is no indication Friday’s burglary was motivated by bias or hate. But, due to prior incidents, the FBI is investigating the incident.

Police are asking the public to watch the video and focus on the suspect’s physical appearance, clothing, footwear and items being carried. Anyone with information on the burglary is asked to contact the Bloomington Police Department at 952-563-4900.
