Minnesota House candidate arrested for domestic assault

Brad Gerten, the Republican Party-endorsed candidate for Minnesota House District 51A, was arrested over the weekend and booked into the Dakota County Jail for domestic assault. Gerten was arrested by Burnsville, Minn police late Saturday night and booked into jail early Sunday morning. He remained in jail Monday morning, awaiting a Tuesday court appearance.

House Speaker Kurt Daudt (R-Crown) issued a statement on the incident and said  no House Republican Campaign Committee funds will be spent on the 51A race.

"Domestic violence is unacceptable to our party and our caucus,” Daudt said. “No HRCC resources have been spent in this district to date, nor will they in the future."

Gerten is challenging Rep. Sandra Masin (DFL-Eagan) for her seat this November.
