How MSP Airport changes are impacting noise in Burnsville, Minn.

BURNSVILLE, Minn. (KMSP) - The City of Burnsville will be meeting at 7 p.m. tonight to talk about recent airport flight patterns after several residents complained about the resulting noise. There will also be representatives from the Metropolitan Airports Commission and Federal Aviation Administration on hand.
Implemented last year, the changes are part of new airport runway safety rules, as well as a continuing effort by the MAC and FAA to determine the safest use of runways at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. Since then, airport officials have been meeting regularly with nearby residents.
According to a press release, officials will “explain these new rules, the resulting flight pattern changes over Burnsville and the steps being taken to address community impacts.”
Following the new guidelines, the FAA adjusted take offs and arrivals for several runways at MSP. Though the adjustments provide the required separation, some runways are seeing more traffic than ever before while others are seeing less.
After a presentation by the MAC and FAA, residents will have an opportunity to ask questions.
The meeting will take place at Burnsville City Council Chambers and will be carried live on Burnsville Civic Television Channel 16/HD 859 and streamed live online.
