18-year-old pilot conducts emergency landing in Alexandria lake

An 18-year-old pilot is safe after he successfully performed an emergency landing Friday night in Alexandria, Minnesota.

According to the Douglas County sheriff's office, Maxwell Guderian of Minnetonka was conducting touch and go landings at the Alexandria Airport when the single engine Piper 'Archer' he was flying lost power. The pilot was not able to make it back to the airport, so he conducted an emergency landing into Lake Winona.

Authorities received the 911 call around 7 p.m., and found Guderian standing on the roof of the plane.

The pilot was not injured in the crash.The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash.
