Empowering girls to find career success

Smart Girl LLC empowers girls ages 12-18, giving them the tools they need to become successful later in life.

Christina Kargbo started the organization in 2011.  Now, teenagers meet after school at Sanford Middle School each week.

"Social media is a big part of how these women view themselves.  We want them to be comfortable in their own skin and be the best version of themselves," Kargbo says

The girls put together vision boards to post pictures of their future dreams.

"You want to be a doctor, lawyer, dentist, whatever it is that you want to be, put it on the vision board and watch it come to life," Kargbo says.

Teacher Amber Hunter also talks about respect.

"You have to give respect in order to receive it,  sometimes when you give it, you're not going to always get it back. It's okay to learn that lesson," Hunter says.

The girls discuss college resumes, dressing professionally, conducting themselves during interviews and even thinking about being their own boss one day.

Kargbo wants to expand to her own facility with a computer lab, dress for success area and more.

Right now, supplies and field trips come out of her own pocket.
