Minnesota weather: Shelters, beds available during cold streak ahead

Several agencies and organizations in the Twin Cities are providing spaces for people who are looking for a place to keep warm during temps later this week that will be the coldest we've felt this season.

Parts of Russia are dealing with the aftermath of a powerful storm that dumped more than 7 feet of snow over the weekend. At the same time, northern Florida experienced rare snowfall. FOX 9 meteorologist Cody Matz reports.

A cold weather advisory is in effect across Minnesota through Monday morning as temperatures plunge to dangerously cold levels to start the week.

More Twin Cities roadways are covered in ice, especially in the western half of the metro, according to MnDOT's website. This is causing incidents on area roadways. Expect a slow morning commute. In addition to icy highways, there are sneaky slick spots across the region due to rain overnight. Secondary surfaces (sidewalks, driveways, parking lots) are expected to be slippery too.

Several incidents have been reported on Twin Cities roadways on Tuesday as traffic volume ticks up during the morning commute. Rain earlier has led to sneaky, slick spots on highways and secondary surfaces.

It's been raining hard enough that the rain hasn't been able to freeze on Tuesday morning in Minnesota.

Icy road conditions have been reported in the St. Cloud and Sartell area, with MnDOT's website showing ice-covered roadways northwest of the Twin Cities metro. Meanwhile, in the Twin Cities metro, some roadways are slushy. There are some sneaky slick spots across the region, especially on secondary surfaces, as well as bridges and ramps.

Heavy rain is helping keep icy conditions at bay across the Twin Cities metro, as are the temperatures, which are just above freezing. However, sidewalks, driveways, parking lots are slippery and there are some slick spots on area roadways. As the rain winds down, though, things could get dicier.

Main roads are in pretty decent shape in the Twin Cities, but the morning commute will be all about the sneaky slippery spots as temperatures hover right around freezing. Sidewalks, decks, driveways and parking lots are going to be the slipperiest.
