Minnesota weather: Spring river flooding risk this year is higher than average

Morning lows. Yes, quite cold, especially in the north. Some perspective: No daily records were broken. Not even close. It was the coldest air of the season in the Twin Cities, yet still warmer than many of the coldest days thru the last several years. We average 18 below zero each winter.

Plenty of cold on Friday as we start in the double digits below zero, and gradually climb above zero by this afternoon. We continue slowly warming from there through the evening and Friday night. Clouds arriving now will lead to some occasional sun.

The colder air arrives Thursday, with northwest breezes becoming gusty by mid-morning. This will shove temperatures down into single digits in the afternoon with a windchill below zero, making it feel like 25-35 below zero by Thursday evening to Thursday night for much of the state, and even colder windchill across northeastern Minnesota.

It'll be mostly sunny with a high near 10 degrees in the Twin Cities on Tuesday afternoon. And it'll get warmer from there, with a high of around 20 degrees in the forecast for Wednesday.
