Bachman?s grows 60,000 of the bright red flower and many varieties in its greenhouses just south of the Twin Cities metro, in Farmington. The flower is native to Mexico and has some strict growing conditions including a period of darkness in September and consistently warm temperatures in the 60s and 70s, no drafts allowed. Once the poinsettias are out of the greenhouses the garden company will begin growing hydrangeas for the summer.

Empire Township to become a city on Tuesday
Empire Township in Dakota County is expected to become the City of Empire on Tuesday. Elected officials will be sworn in as part of the process. About 20 years ago, the town started to feel the pressure of development. Nearby cities like Farmington started annexing pieces of land. The town already had its own water and sewer systems and saved millions of dollars to replace its aging water tower. Even though new signs will go up identifying Empire as a city, the addresses will continue to mostly be in Farmington.
