Twins introduce new general manager, chief baseball officer

MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) - With new general manager Thad Levine and new chief baseball officer Derek Falvey in place, the Minnesota Twins front office has officially been restructured.

The Twins formally introduced the two front office new members at a press conference on Monday. As chief baseball officer, Falvey hired Levine to the GM post. Now, the two hope to revitalize a team that has not been to the postseason since 2010.

Falvey served as an assistant general manager for the Cleveland Indians for nine seasons before joining the Twins.

Levine had been an assistant general manager for the Texas Rangers since 2005. He also previously worked with the Colorado Rockies and the Los Angeles Dodgers. He will take the place of former general manager Terry Ryan, who was let go in July.

During Levine’s time in Texas, the Rangers went to the World Series twice since 2010. The Indians just went to the World Series, an experience Falvey says he can translate to what is in the Twin Cities.

“That experience for me, and building that organization really from the ground up, I mean most of that team was either internally developed or traded for and homegrown with some augmenting in the free agent market,” Falvey said. “We had the opportunity to build an impressive team that came together, that valued the chemistry and culture in that clubhouse and so I feel I’ve learned a great deal from that experience that I hope to apply here.”

Levine says he hopes this is the last stop in his career. Both him and Falvey have what they call “championship” vision.

“The best chapter is yet to come, and it starts today,” Levine said.
