Twin Cities sets record with 4 days of 5 inches of snow in one month

What. A. Month. While the long-range forecasting models showed a chilly and active month of February several weeks ago, I’m not sure anyone was prepared for how busy it would be.

We have now seen four different days this month with at least 5 inches of snow. That has NEVER happened in the Twin Cities. Sure, the city has seen far more snow in a day, or even over the course of a couple of days. But, we have never experienced four days in the same month with at least 5 inches of snowfall and the month isn’t even over yet.

Yes, this record can be a bit deceiving and a bit arbitrary because one storm could drop a few inches of snow on either side of midnight and not hit these criteria. However, considering we’re approaching the snowiest month on record, I think we can say that this is a pretty big deal.

And with a potentially busy weekend ahead, we could be adding another day to our record. While it’s unlikely, especially since our potential snow will likely be split on either side of midnight, it’s definitely possible, so keep that shovel and snow blower handy!
