Light snow hit the southern half of Minnesota causing a mess on the roads just in time for Super Bowl weekend.

Statewide from 12:01 a.m. to 9 p.m. there were 407 crashes. There was one fatal crash in Carlton County and 46 other crashes with injuries. There were also 229 spin outs and two jack-knifed semis.

A pileup involving 30 to 50 vehicles stopped traffic near Rogers on I-94 near Highway 101.

The Joint Information Center, made up of multiple law enforcement agencies for the Super Bowl, held a press conference early Saturday evening addressing weather and travel concerns for the Super Bowl events.

Since the temperatures are expected to drop overnight, officials are warning the roads will likely be slick Sunday as well.

"If you wonder what more than a year of planning for things and more than a year of exercises and what ifs, looks like - you can look back here and see it," said Howie Padilla, communications for Metro Transit. "You can look at all the crews clearing snow, working with our communities."
