Another cold and snowy weekend has pushed the Twin Cities above average in overall subzero occurrences for the season, which marks the first time that has occurred since the winter of 2018-2019.

A clipper storm will slide into the Twin Cities region from Wednesday night into Thursday offering a blustery next few days. An inch or a little more of fresh snow could slow commutes as an arctic blast will arrive on Saturday.

It will stay warmer than average and breezy over the next few days as snow pack will begin melting with not a lot of snow in the forecast to replenish it. A rain and snow mix is expected late Thursday afternoon, and will accumulate less than an inch. A brief weekend cool down will feel more like a cold slap to the face on Saturday.

While not even close to record cold for the month, it was one of the coldest months we've experienced in the last couple of decades.

Saturday marked the first Special Olympics Minnesota Polar Plunge of the season into White Bear Lake. Baxter the polar bear pup and FOX 9's Chief Meteorologist Ian Leonard as the can of Coca Cola. Ian plunged six times as Baxter watched/barked! Ian has six more plunge weekends into mid-March, freezing for his friends who make up the 8,000 athletes of Special Olympics Minnesota.
