The air quality alert for much of Minnesota has been extended to 6 p.m. Wednesday. Meanwhile, a wintry mix Tuesday night could spell trouble for the Wednesday morning commute.

Fog in the morning, and an air quality alert for sensitive groups remains in effect on Tuesday thanks to stagnant air. A light wintry mix is possible Tuesday night, which could make roadways slippery for the Wednesday morning commute.

Our warming trend continues Monday as we try to flirt with a brief tiny little thaw. Otherwise, some light fog and an increase in mid and high-level clouds into the afternoon.

The weather across the Twin Cities and beyond will stay quite peaceful into next week, with some sunshine and temperatures close to the average for this time of year. Patchy fog on Friday morning led to some "sparkle flurries" for the commute but overall it will be chilly and brighter for most. The high temperature will be in the teens across the area.

Friday's forecast will feature pockets of sunshine and highs in the teens across much of Minnesota.

An icy glaze is possible Friday morning. The bright and peaceful trend continues.

Still a few flakes and flurries falling, but they should clear quickly this morning leading to a flake-free afternoon. The clouds will linger, but may part a bit just in time for the sun to set as temps hold steady in the mid-20s.

MSP Airport picked up 14.9 inches as of 6 a.m. Thursday, with most people in the metro getting 12-16 inches. Only a few flurries are left Thursday morning. Otherwise, temperatures will stay in the 20s with a chance for a few peeks of sun. Chilly and quiet sunshine into this weekend.

Sunshine will return on Thursday after heavy snow that dumped about a foot of snow across much of the southern half of Minnesota Tuesday-Wednesday.

Snow continues through the day on Wednesday but will be most intense in the morning before very slowly waning Wednesday afternoon and evening. Another 3-5 inches of snow is likely for the Twin Cities into Wednesday night before finally tapering off overnight, leading to a snowflake-free Thursday.

A winter storm warning is in effect in the Twin Cities through 6pm. About 10 inches of snow is expected by the time the storm rolls out of the area.

Minnesota will see various precipitation types, including heavy snow. A little bit of freezing rain and sleet cannot be ruled out. Southwestern Minnesota is expected to get the most snow.
