Woman dies after stabbing on Hennepin Avenue in Minneapolis, 1 in custody

A woman has died after a stabbing Saturday night in downtown Minneapolis.

According to Minneapolis police, around 9:34 p.m., officers responded to a report of a possible stabbing on the 800 block of Hennepin Avenue. Officers provided aid to the woman, who was then transported to the hospital where she later died.

Authorities are still investigating the incident.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner identified the victim of the stabbing as 42-year-old Mesheka Octavious Willis, of Minneapolis.

She died of a sharp force injury of the chest at Hennepin Healthcare in Minneapolis.

Minneapolis Police announced Sunday evening that a 39-year-old woman was arrested in connection with the stabbing. She was booked on probable cause murder, but has not yet been charged.

Volunteers with "A Mother's Love" happened to be downtown Saturday. The group walks the streets of downtown Minneapolis every Friday and Saturday night to stamp out violence and lend a hand to at-risk people.

One of the volunteers, KG Wilson, said he heard the police response near 8th and Hennepin in the theater district and stumbled across a crime scene in a parking lot where a large surveillance camera sits.

"This situation - tragic situation - that happened needs to bring some change to this downtown area here," Wilson added.
