Tram accident seriously injures two at residence in St. Croix, Wis.

A tram accident in Houlton, Wis. injured two people on Wednesday afternoon. The St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office received a call about an accident at a private residence shortly before 3 p.m.

The residence has a tram that runs about 500 feet from the house down to the St. Croix River.  Two people were injured when a mechanical problem caused the car to fall the last 10 to 15 feet of the track before coming to an abrupt stop.

The two people riding in the car at the time of the accident, a 21-year-old man and a 9-year-old girl, were both ejected.

Multiple agencies responded to the call, but because of the rocky and steep terrain rescue crews had to reach the two from the river. They were then transported across the river to Stillwater, Minn. and taken Regions hospital in serious condition.
