State officials cracking down on illegal activity at college bars

Between homecoming, Halloween and football Saturdays, bars near college campuses across Minnesota are busier than ever in the fall. In an effort to combat any illegal activity at a minimum, the Department of Public Safety is sending officials out to these establishments to ensure they are following the state's alcohol and gambling rules ahead of these traditional college celebrations.

Random compliance checks will take place on college campuses throughout the state, focusing on liquor license inspections and reviewing gambling activities. The state alcohol and gambling agents will be looking for any potentially illegal sports betting, such as football boards for pay.

Officials will also be checking whether establishments are serving to over-intoxicated customers or anyone under 21.
