Deputy David Eidsmo helped with the delivery of Kyle Solle on Christmas Day 1997.

Over the course of a 26-year career as a Hennepin County Sheriff’s Deputy, David Eidsmo saw a lot. But it’s what he saw and did on Christmas Day 1997 that sticks with him as among his happiest memories.

“All of sudden, there is a baby being born being born up the street and you are like ‘Holy Toledo,’ well actually we said something besides Toledo,” said Eidsmo.

Eidsmo was in the right place at the right time to help a mother deliver her baby boy that couldn’t wait for December 26. In the years since, Eidsmo and the family of Kyle Solle have exchanged Christmas cards. But this year when Solle graduated from high school, Eidsmo decided to make the trip to Iowa and attend his graduation party.

“I told him, you know I’m glad I only delivered you. I’d sure as heck hate to have to arrest you, I mean the guy is like huge,” said Eidsmo.

Eidsmo says they plan to continue to stay in touch.

“It’s something that will always be in my memory,” said Eidsmo.
