Deputies search for inmate who escaped from Hennepin Co. Jail during transport

MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - Deputies are searching for an inmate who escaped from the Hennepin County Jail while he was being moved to another facility.

What we know:
The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office is searching for 46-year-old Billy Mason who ran away from the jail early Sunday afternoon.
Mason had been granted a conditional release on a case he faced in Hennepin County but was being moved to Ramsey County, where he was wanted on another warrant.
However, during the transport process, he was able to run out of an open security garage door at the jail. At the time, he was handcuffed with a waistband.
Police say Mason is 5-foot-10-inches, 249 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. Police say Mason reported having no permanent residence when he was booked into jail.

A statement from the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office reads:
"The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office is utilizing all available resources including law enforcement partners to locate Mason… Our detectives are investigating all leads, and we are also seeking the public’s help. If anyone is aware of Mason’s location or has information related to his whereabouts, please call 911. Our office is investigating this situation and looking at every step that led up to it to determine any corrective action. We want the community to know we are committed to your safety and we will provide further updates as more information becomes available."
Mason wanted in multiple counties
The backstory:
Court records show Mason had warrants in four separate counties before he was arrested last week.
In Hennepin, he was wanted for failing to appear on a summons in a domestic abuse case where he is accused of violating an order of protection.
In Anoka County, he's also wanted on charges of violating an order of protection. In Rice County, he's facing a theft case.
What we don't know:
It's unclear what Mason was wanted for in Ramsey County.
