Cuts & cocktails: Hair salon in Dover, Minn. adds bar to services

Blowout bars have become all the rage over the past couple of years.

But a hair salon owner in southern Minnesota added an actual bar to her salon over the weekend.

At the Hair Shack in Dover, customers of all shapes and sizes come in for a new 'do, but coloring and cutting aren't the only services this salon has on tap.

"I love it. It's been a very good response from people because there isn't anything like it around here," owner Jody Wiza said.

Wiza said customers were always bringing in their own drinks while waiting to get in her chair.

So she turned the former bank building that is home to her hair salon into a full service bar and restaurant that also has a lock on locks.

"A lot of husbands and wives come in together. The wives will come in and get foiled and then come back in here," Wiza said.

The two businesses may seem worlds apart, but Wiza said there are more similarities than you might think.

"A lot of times they just need to get their hair done so they can feel good. Why do people go to the bar? So they can spill their guts and feel good before they leave. Now I have the best of both of them," Wiza said.

Meanwhile customers can let their hair down and get it done at the same time.

"I'm a full-time mom and I work full-time and I'm in school, so it's kind of like a mini vacation, so it's pretty nice," customer Violet Torres said.

Downtown Dover already has its fair share of bars, but Wiza hopes serving alcohol will help make the trip to her salon the highlight of her customer's day.

"Every hour is a happy hour. Whether you are in here or out there. It's a happy hour," Wiza said.

Wiza's bar just had its grand opening last weekend but she hopes to add a tiki bar in back of her business by this summer.
