Country singer Annie Bosko discusses song she co-wrote with Kid Rock and opening for Dolly Parton in Las Vegas

Country star Annie Bosko was born and raised in California’s Central Valley and embraces being a farmer's daughter. Her debut album "California Cow Girl" features 19 songs, including the title track "Goodbye California" she co-wrote with Kid Rock, which expresses her sadness over the decline in the state she loves.

"I think it was a matter of being really honest and not being afraid to be honest and not being afraid to speak the truth because so many artists that I respect, going back to like John Lennon, they're not afraid to look around society, the climate of the world that they're living in and to write and sing about it, said Bosko. "And so part of being from California is also the heartbreak of watching what's happened to it. Not all parts, they're like pockets that are untouched by what's happened, but there are, you know, parts of California that have been absolutely devastated, and it's not thriving the way it should be. So I felt that this was an important part of my story because I've seen the change, from how I grew up, is not the California that it is today."

Annie Bosko co-wrote ‘Goodbye California’ with Kid Rock

Bosko, up until now, hasn’t shared that she wrote "Goodbye California" with Kid Rock as she didn’t want to be labeled as being politically far right.

"For me, it doesn't matter which side you're on. It's like the best person for the job that cares that's going to get the job done. Like that's what I care about. And so, you know, I knew like, for instance, Kid Rock is a co-writer on Goodbye California with me, which is something I've really not gone online and talked about, because there was a part of the fear of the backlash of people being like, oh, now we really know she's some far right winged. She wrote it with Kid Rock, which is so not true," said Bosko.

Annie Bosko says Kid Rock heard the song, told her to turn it into a love song for California

"In fact, he heard the song. He used to live in Malibu and, um. It was actually his idea to turn it into a love song. He said, Hey, I think this could be a wider song. I think it could reach more people if you actually made it about a lover. And like you're saying goodbye to a lover and California's personified as this person that you used to share your life with, and now you're being forced to like to pack up and leave like all those memories and the love that you shared," said Bosko.

"I'm thrilled. I'm so excited. And I can't think of a more influential icon in music and entertainment than her. It's unbelievable. She transcends genre, she transcends politics, you know, believe whatever, right, left, getting straight, she's everything. Yeah, she really is. And so I'm just, yeah, I'm just thrilled to be in her presence, and I'm thrilled about the opportunity because I know there weren't very many artists selected. So the fact that I was, yeah, is a huge, huge vote of confidence and honor, you know, that I will never forget," said Bosko.
