Charges: Hopkins woman drove drunk, fled police with 2 kids in car

A Hopkins, Minnesota woman has been charged with fleeing police, DWI and child endangerment for allegedly driving drunk with two children in the car shortly after midnight Wednesday.

Around 12:10 a.m., Hopkins police officers saw a Dodge Durango turn west onto 1st Street South and begin driving on the wrong side of the road, according to the charges. The Durango then turned onto 11th Avenue South and ran a red light.

The officers activated their lights and sirens, but the Durango accelerated and continued to drive, swerving between lanes. The officers continued to follow the vehicle through several other intersections before the driver eventually pulled over on Westbrooke Way.

Officers identified the driver as 23-year-old Jamyria Olson. A 1-year-old and a 10-year-old child were in the back seat.

Olson’s initial breath test at the scene returned a blood alcohol content of .20. A second breath sample following her arrest returned a BAC of .17.

Olson is charged with two counts of DWI, two counts of endangering a child and one count of fleeing police. She has a previous drunk driving conviction from last October.
