7 Minnesota teens at Wichita basketball tourney charged with assault spree

A group of Minnesota teens will return from an out-of-state basketball tournament not with a trophy, but with battery and assault charges on their record.

According to Wichita, Kansas police, 7 teens from the Minneapolis area were arrested for assaulting at least 4 people in downtown Wichita. The teens range in age from 12 to 18.

In one incident, a man was knocked off his bike, punched, and beaten with rocks. In another, a group of people were attacked while sitting on their front porch.

"These teens begin to throw rocks, bricks, bottles and other chunks of concrete at the victims at this location,” said Wichita Police Lt. James Espinoza.

Charges against the basketball players range from simple battery to aggravated assault. They were in Wichita for the Mid-America Youth Basketball Tournament.
