1 dead, 3 arrested in north Minneapolis shooting

One person is dead after a shooting in north Minneapolis Thursday afternoon. 

According to Minneapolis Police, around 12:43 p.m. Hennepin County sheriff's office deputies were in the area near N. 6th Street and 37th Avenue North, responded to a report of a shooting. They found one man with a fatal gunshot wound to his chest, who later died at the scene.

The deputies then heard gunshots and observed a car swerving in the area. When police stopped the car, three people jumped out and attempted to flee. Deputies immediately arrested two of the suspects and the third was later found with the help of a K-9. Several handguns were recovered from inside the car.

Loved ones have identified the victim as Rodgerick Evans. Family member Lonnie Evans witnessed the shooting.

"Next thing we know - pop, pop, pop, pop - we all went to running, they shot," said Evans.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office will officially identify the victim and the cause of death.

The motive behind the shooting is still under investigation.
