The National Weather Service has confirmed an EF-1 tornado touched down in Rochester as strong storms pushed through Minnesota.

For the first time since Sep. 19, 2018, the Twin Cities hit the 90 degrees Friday. 

There have been many important weather forecasts over the last century and a half, but none likely more important than that of the D-Day invasion of June 6, 1944. One hundred thousand soldiers, 12,000 aircraft, 5,000 warships, and literally the fate of the world was in the hands of a few meteorologists.

Flooding following Tuesday evening's storm in the Twin Cities metro area stranded cars in Lakeville, according to city leaders.

Tuesday's storm left all types of damage across parts of Minnesota, including broken tree branches, power lines and even a grain bin.

A warm and humid Tuesday afternoon set the stage for strong storms to develop and roll across the region from the northwest to southeast through the evening. There was also a Tornado Warning issued in parts of Dakota, Goodhue and Scott counties.

Strong storms are expected to erupt in the hot and sticky atmosphere Tuesday afternoon and evening. The northeast Twin Cities metro and northeast parts of the state are particularly at risk for severe weather. 

We’re finally rid of May, turning the calendar to June, and hopefully turning the page on a wet and cool pattern we have been entrenched in so far this year. 

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has issued an air quality alert for the Twin Cities metro, southwest and south central Minnesota due to smoke in the air from wildfires in northern Canada.
