This week on the FOX 9 Gopher Coaches Show, we catch up with Niko Medved from the men's basketball team. The Gophers are 10-5 overall and 3-1 in Big Ten play in Medved's first season. FOX 9's Ahmad Hicks and KFAN's Justin Gaard catch up with Medved on his first season at Minnesota so far, Tuesday night's court rush after beating Iowa and hosting USC on Friday. Star guard Cade Tyson also joins the show.

The Gophers' men's basketball team got a big road win at Northwestern on Saturday, and celebrated it with a stop for gas station snacks on the way home. Minnesota starts a three-game homestand against Iowa Tuesday night.

On our first installment of this season's Gopher Coaches Show, we catch up with Dawn Plitzuweit of the Minnesota women's basketball team. The Gophers picked up a Big Ten road win at Indiana. FOX 9's Ahmad Hicks and KFAN's Justin Gaard talk with coach Plitzuweit about the season so far, a trip to the Bahamas and getting to know the new players on the roster.

The Gophers' men's basketball team closed out the non-conference slate with a 60-43 win over Fairleigh Dickinson Monday night, but Niko Medved was not happy with their effort after the game.

During the 2025 season, the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers traveled to Chicago to take on the Northwestern Wildcats in the friendly confines of Wrigley Field. FOX 9's DOC 9 team tagged along to give an incredible look at football being played at the historic Wrigley Field. The Minnesota Golden Gophers close out their season today with a matchup against New Mexico State in the Rate Bowl. We’re joined by Bring Me The News sports reporter Tony Liebert to break down the Gophers’ 2025 campaign, assess where the program stands heading into bowl season and discuss the shifting college football bowl landscape. Tony also weighs in on Minnesota’s 2026 recruiting outlook. 

The Gophers are headed to Phoenix to face New Mexico in the Rate Bowl on December 26th. Minnesota enters the matchup with the longest active bowl win streak in the nation at eight straight victories as the team looks to add a ninth at Chase Field, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Fiesta Sports Foundation Executive Director Erik Moses says fans can look forward to warm weather, festive events and plenty of activities throughout Phoenix. With temperatures in the 70s, a unique baseball park setting and a chance to extend their postseason success, the Gophers are set for a high-energy holiday matchup in the Valley of the Sun.

The University of Minnesota football team will face New Mexico in the Rate Bowl on Friday, Dec. 26 in Phoenix, Arizona. The Gophers beat Wisconsin to finish the regular season 7-5, and have won eight straight bowl games. They are 6-0 in bowl games under P.J. Fleck.

Gophers defensive lineman Anthony Smith wouldn't say Wednesday if he's returning to Minnesota in 2026 for his final season, or entering the NFL Draft. He says he's focused on playing Wisconsin Saturday, and bringing Paul Bunyan's Axe back to Minneapolis.
