EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (KMSP) - After a tough loss in the NFC Championship game, the Minnesota Vikings have suffered another loss.
The New York Giants hired Vikings offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur as their new head coach. He will be the 18th head coach in franchise history.
“I want to thank John Mara and Steve Tisch for giving me the opportunity to be the head coach of the New York Giants,” said Shurmur. “I am looking forward to getting to work with Dave Gettleman and Kevin Abrams and starting the process to once again build a championship team. I have been fortunate to work with many great coaches and players, and I am thankful for those relationships. I would like to thank my family and friends for their tremendous support.”
The Professional Football Writers of America recently named Shurmur the NFL Assistant Coach of the Year.
Shurmur will be replacing former Giants coach Ben McAdoo, who was fired after going 2-10 this season. The Giants finished the season 3-13 and last in the NFC East division.
