TOP TEACHER: Samuel Eckberg, choir director at Rogers High School

Mr. Samuel Eckberg, a choir director at Rogers High School in Rogers, Minnesota is one of Fox 9’s Top Teachers for the 2017-2018 school year.

The parent of one of Eckberg’s students nominated him, saying musical programs have flourished under him.

Heather Miller, Eckberg’s nominator says when her daughter started in the program three years ago it was a very small choir and band group. Now, in her senior year, they have grown tremendously in talent and numbers.

Eckberg has also helped make the school a better place by participating in the first musical in the new auditorium, having the kids caroling through the halls over the holidays and incorporating the help of other grades like the fifth grade honor choir and the eighth grade choir to help put on amazing holiday concerts, Miller wrote in her nomination.

Eckberg was shocked and humbled by the honor.

“It’s the kiddos that have done this,” Eckberg said. “I’ve just been in the right place at the right time and I’ve found my people and found our department and it is really the kiddos that have done this, not me.”

As Fox 9’s Top Teacher, Eckberg’s school will receive $900 from Royal Credit Union for classroom supplies. Eckberg will also receive a Subway sandwich party for 50 friends and a crystal apple award to place on his desk.
