Sun Country laying off 350 employees at MSP Airport

Sun Country Airlines announced Tuesday it is laying off 350 ground service workers at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

The airline says it is partnering with a new firm, Global Aviation Services USA, Inc., to facilitate its airport operations at MSP Airport, including passenger service, ramp and baggage handling. The firm already manages these services for Sun Country at Southwest Florida International Airport and Tampa International Airport.

In a statement, Sun Country said it is offering affected employees bonus packages and incentive pay options. The airlines is encouraging Sun Country employees to apply for positions with Global Aviation Services USA and says qualified employees will be given "preferable access to interviews."

Global Aviation Services will take over airport operations for Sun Country on May 1.
