A young woman died after falling from the 10th floor of an apartment building in Minneapolis' Dinkytown neighborhood early Thursday morning.

At 1 a.m., the Minneapolis Fire Department responded to The Bridges apartment complex at 930 University Avenue Southeast. Upon arrival, they found the victim outside the building. She did not survive her injuries.

The victim has been identified as Joia Simpson, a freshman at the University of St. Thomas studying business. She is a native of Bayside, California.

The university said Simpson's family "most wants people to remember her smile."
