Al Franken is officially no longer a senator of Minnesota.

Franken sent in his official resignation letter to the Office of Governor Mark Dayton and Lt. Governor Tina Smith, effective at 1 p.m. E.T. on Tuesday. He announced his resignation last month in the wake of multiple sexual misconduct allegations.

"I am grateful to Minnesotans for giving me the chance to serve our state and our nation, and I am proud to have worked on their behalf," wrote Franken in the short letter.

Franken spoke publicly in Minneapolis last week, thanking people for their support and said while he may be leaving the Senate, he would not be giving up his voice.
